The menu is divided into starters, homemade pastas, risottos, gnocchi, fish, veal, grills and ovens. Everything is made on site from scratch and the homemade pastas rival any other Italian hotspot in Joburg. The pizzas are made in a Neapolitan fashion: the dough is left to rise for 48 hours before being hand-rolled and baked in a wood-fired oven. https://www.eatout.co.za/article/modena/
Modena Found Its Way To Johannesburg
Built on the pillars of life, family and culture, Modena Italian Eatery offers a glimpse of the European lifestyle in the centre of Parkhurst. As its name suggests, Modena is inspired by the region in Italy of the same name. It brings authentic Italian dishes to the table in its purest and simplest forms – no substitutions or additives, creating an authentic Italian experience.https://joburg.co.za/a-slice-of-modern-italy-in-parkhurst/
VASSILIOS HOLIASMENOS THE MAN BEHIND MODENA ITALIAN EATERYThe Best Pizza I Ever Had.
I’ve eaten a lot of pizza in my life! I’ve even eaten pizza in Italy. But in this blog post I am going to tell you about the best pizza I have ever eaten and it’s from a newish restaurant that opened up earlier this year. The restaurant is called Modena and is located in Parkhurst Johannesburg. This is not a sponsored post at all, I am just sharing the love for a very delicious pizza with fellow pizza lovers that read Minkys. And yes, I know there is a lot of you! https://www.minkys.co.za/the-best-pizza-i-have-ever-eaten-modena-in-parkhurst/
Fresh Simply delicious!
With so many delicious sounding items on the menu to try it’s difficult to decide, but judging from the reactions of our party of 12, everything looked and tasted fantastic! The beef carpaccio is excellent, and the oxtail risotto is one of a kind!
https://www.tripadvisor.co.nz/ShowUserReviews-g312578-d19654488-r736093849-Modena-Johannesburg_Greater_Johannesburg_Gauteng.html
Coupled with great gin & tonics, an excellent wine selection and superb service from Grant, we had a very enjoyable birthday lunch on the 31st. Thanks for making it so special!
The real and the surreal on a Joburg table
In Modena real-time, there’s homemade spaghetti coated in a nicely chunky and fragrant Napoletana on the table near Philip. There’s garlicky focaccia for us and a large plate of burrata appears on the table, a nice lot of it, with smokily roasted red peppers, for Nick and I to share. I slide a spoon out of my packet and….

Every table is occupied now but it is already getting on for the new pumpkin time at seven, when we order our main courses. Meantime, Philip also orders just one plate of Calamari Fritti for all of us, “just to taste”. It arrives with new pouches of cutlery and napkins for everyone.
